Guatemala

NewImageGuatemala is located in Central America, bordering the North Pacific Ocean, between El Salvador and Mexico, and bordering the Gulf of Honduras (Caribbean Sea) between Honduras and Belize. Nearly half the population is under the age of 15 and more than 70 percent of the people live in poverty.

It is estimated that there are more than 370,000 orphans in Guatemala. It is also estimated that there are nearly 5,000 homeless children living on the streets in Guatemala City (the capital) due to abandonment by their parents who were too poor to care for them. Nearly half of Guatemala’s children are malnourished, the highest in all of Central America.

Mission Focus

Our work in Guatemala is focused on supporting the Children’s Malnutrition Center in San Juan. The Malnutrition Center has been in operation for many years, first as a tuberculosis hospital, and then in the mid 1970′s it was changed to meet the needs of children suffering from malnutrition.

NewImageWe give love and care for children from infants to ten years of age. We do everything from holding, feeding, bathing, providing medical care, and nurturing spiritual development through Bible stories, singing, crafts, games and other activities. We are also involved in many maintenance projects in order to bring the facilities to a standard where more children can be nourished back to full health. In addition to our work at the Malnutrition Center, we construct homes for families who are currently living with little or no shelter. There is nothing that compares to the joy that comes when you see the face of a child or a parent who enters the door of his very own home for the first time! The more hands that join us, the more love we will be able to share with these precious children and families!
